Acer unveils a slew of new Switch laptops and detachables

Stay tuned though, as we'll be taking a closer look at these computers later today.

Acer's Swift line of notebooks delivered 11 percent year-on-year growth. Its aesthetics have been upgraded with a new brushed hairline design in its aluminum chassis.

Lightweight and priced right for a student or others on a budget, the Swift 1 is highly portable and includes essential features for productivity anywhere, making them a great value. The Acer Switch 5 is thin and light, measuring just 292x201.8x12mm and weighing 1.27kg when the tablet and keyboard are connected.

The 12.2-inch Switch 3 comes with a Full HD (1920 x 1200) display, up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. Both these models are announced to be available for purchase in June in North America and EMEA, and in China starting from April itself. The device will be available in 14-inch or 15.6-inch Full HD IPS anti-glare displays.

Acer Switch 3 and Switch 5 hands-on review: Amidst the slew of new Acer hardware unveiled at the company's annual global press conference in NY, we were introduced to two new 2-in-1s to carry the torch on from last year's Switch Alpha 12: the Switch 3 and Switch 5. The 12.2-inch display is created to deliver incredible precision and a responsive 10-point touch experience. The company introduced the Switch 3 and Switch 5 - the latter is the more premium variant with a fingerprint sensor on board and Windows Hello support.

"We extremely excited to be bringing our innovative LiquidLoop fanless cooling system to our all-in-one PCs", said Jeff Lee, General Manager, Stationary Computing, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. The Switch 3 tablet alone measures just 9.95 mm (0.39 inch) in height and weighs 0.9 kg (1.98 pounds).

The Switch 5 is Acer's first 2-in-1 laptop that features its LiquidLoop offering; it, as with the Aspire all-in-one, are ultra-quiet thanks to the elimination of the cooling fan.

If the Switch 3 sounds a little underpowered for your needs, the Switch 5 offers significantly more punch with a larger price to match.

The display packs in more pixels with an FHD+ (2160x1440) resolution, retains that 10-point multitouch support and Acer Active Pen support but is also accompanied by beefier audio leveraging the company's own TrueHarmony tech and what's called a "SmartAmplifier".

In terms of design, the Acer Switch 5 has an auto-retracting kickstand so that its viewing angle can be easily adjusted, just like the Surface Pro 4. Under the hood, you will find up to 7th Generation Intel Core processors, Intel HD or NVIDIA GeForce graphic cards.

Both versions of the new Switch come with a keyboard cover included in the price, with the Switch 5's being backlit. The detachable keyboard offers 1.4mm key travel.

Acer claims that these advances allow for the Switch 5 to last up to 10.5 hours on a charge, even with that increased power profile. You can also lock in up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and choose from either a 256GB or a 512GB SSD.

The team at Notebook Review will have full reviews of the new Acer Swift and Acer Switch series notebooks as they become available later this year.
