Dead Island 2 Isn't Dead After All, Insists Deep Silver

From here, Deep Silver announced that Snake Pass developer Sumo Digital would be taking up development of the game, but considering the developer has been pretty busy with Snake Pass, we've wondered what exactly is happening with Dead Island 2.

In a statement sent over to Eurogamer, a Deep Silver representative said: "Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver's most successful IP".

Despite the radio silence from games publisher Deep Silver this past year, the studio's long-awaited Dead Island 2 is, in fact, still in development (via Eurogamer).

"Dead island 2 has the potential to be the defining Dead island's fun, absolutely stunning and has all the blood and gore zombie killers could want".

After relative quiet for a year, it was then announced that United Kingdom studio and former LittleBigPlanet 3 developer, Sumo Digital had been tasked with taking over the project.

Remember a couple of years back when Deep Silver announced its long-awaited follow-up to Dead Island, only for the thing to disappear without a trace? The zombie apocalypse sequel was slated for a release in 2015 but went into limbo once Yager and Deep Silver parted ways later that year. The original Dead Island was released in 2011 by developer Techland.

Dead Island 2 was originally due to launch spring 2015.

So the game was being developed by the team at Yager, and, at one point, it was quite playable in the four-player co-op fashion. What are you hoping the second game will bring to the series? Let us know below in the comments.
