Netflix renews '13 Reasons Why' for second season

Netflix announced Sunday that the streaming service has renewed the critically acclaimed and controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why for a second season.

Meanwhile, producer Selena Gomez recently shared her thoughts on the controversy. "Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming (sic)".

Netflix gave fans what they've been hoping for!

And instead of a suicide note, Hannah chose to leave tapes behind to a selected few school peers - including love interest Clay, played by Dylan Minnette, explaining the events that led to her death.

'There has been a tremendous amount of discussion about our series 13 Reasons Why' show-runners stated to the Hollywood Reporter. The goal is to help teens realize there are people who can help if they find themselves in a situation similar to Hannah's.

Netflix's original series 13 Reasons Why hasn't spent much time outside of the headlines since it dropped last month. Experts and commentators have labeled the show problematic for a wide variety of reasons - maybe even more than 13. "I think we'd very much like to have that opportunity". Since its debut on March 31, "13 Reasons Why" has become the most-tweeted show of 2017, with Netflix reporting more than 11 million mentions, EOnline reported.

But mental health advocate Mike King praised the way the show raised awareness of the driving triggers of suicide.

It focuses on the topics of bullying, sexual assault, depression, and suicide.
