Griezmann vows to stay with Atletico

Although there had been strong rumours suggesting the 26-year-old was making his way to Old Trafford, the Europa League winners seem to have lost interest in the move.

However, injury to Zlatan Ibrahimovic has complicated United's plans and FIFA's deicison today to uphold Atletico's transfer ban has increased the likelyhood of Griezmann staying in the Spanish capital.

The French forward was heavily linked with an £86m move to Manchester United this summer.

The Spanish club were punished by Federation Internationale de Football Association for the illegal signing of underage players, and the ban means that they will be unable to register new signings until January 2018.

However, reports emerged on Thursday afternoon from several sources claiming United had cooled their interest on Griezmann.

Atletico's transfer ban only lasts through this summer and ends January 1st, so it's possible that Griezmann could end up leaving in the winter transfer window. They had planned to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, who was seen as a likely replacement for Griezmann.

"We have made a decision to stay", Griezmann told Telefoot. "So it would be a dirty move for me to leave now".

The France global is believed to be a top target for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho as he looks to add more quality to his squad for the club's return to the Champions League next season.

"It would be a dirty move to leave now - we talked to the leaders and we will be back for next season".

With 54 Premier League goals last season United were comfortably the lowest scorers in the top seven.

His current deal includes a 100 million euro (about £86 million, or about N40 billion) release clause.
