Julian Edelman, Patriots Agree On 'Multi-Year' Contract Extension

Edelman was entering the final year of his four-year contract and was scheduled to earn $3 million in base salary this season.

Julian Edelman has been a key part of the New England Patriots offense ever since the departure of Wes Welker.

Mike Garafolo, of the NFL Network, had previously reported the two sides were moving toward a deal.

Julian Edelman's contract was set to expire after this season, but the Patriots aren't letting him get away. He has led the Patriots in catches in three of the past four seasons, finishing previous year with a team-high 98 catches for 1,106 yards in the 2016 regular season.

The New England Patriots look to keep Tom Brady happy and keep one of his favorite targets and best friend around a little longer.

Edelman has been with the Patriots since being drafted by the organization in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

A two-time Super Bowl champion, Edelman caught 98 passes for 1,106 yards in 2016. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound shifty receiver was instrumental in the franchise's fifth Super Bowl winning season, recording 21 receptions for 342 yards in three playoff games.
