Ranieri appointed Nantes coach

Claudio Ranieri, the veteran Italian coach who led Leicester City to their English Premier League title last season against all the odds, has taken over at Nantes, the Ligue 1 club said on Thursday.

Nantes received special dispensation from French league officials to hire the popular Ranieri as he had reached the manager's age limit of 65 previous year.

"FC Nantes are delighted to announced the arrival of Claudio Ranieri", the club said on its website as the appointment of the 65-year-old Italian was made official.

At 65, we doubt Ranieri is really the guy. At Nantes, he replaces Sergio Conceicao.

Ranieri agreed a two year deal with Nantes earlier this week, but his contract hasn't arrived signed yet. "I haven't signed yet, but there is an agreement with the president", Ranieri told Mediaset Premium. "I'm convinced we'll have a good season".

What kind Nantes side is Ranieri joining?

Claudio Ranieri will nearly definitely return to management next season, but it remains unclear just where he might end up.

Among the club's most talented players are homegrown midfield duo Valentin Rongier and Amine Harit and Argentinian striker Emiliano Sala, who top-scored last season with 12 Ligue 1 goals.

And according to French publication L'Equipe, managerless Crystal Palace may have scuppered his move to Nantes with a last minute offer.
