Sears at Midway Mall in Elyria set to close

The list of stores, most of which the company plans to close in the fall, also includes Kmart stores in Liverpool and Cortland. Olson said Sears Hometown stores don't carry parts, but customers of manufacturer warranties and protection agreements can call or order parts online by going to to www.searspartsdirect.com or calling toll free at 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a service appointment.

Those stores are in addition to 150 - 108 Kmarts and 42 Sears locations - the company announced in January that it was shuttering. All four NY stores will have liquidation sales starting June 15.

A Sears store remains in La Crosse's Valley View Mall, although its auto center closes in May as did the State Road Kmart pharmacy.

The closings follow an initial announcement by the company that it would be closing more than 180 stores, according to the publication.

"That's too bad", said Kelly Brennan, who was shopping at the Sears store Wednesday morning. "As a result, we hope to retain a portion of the sales previously associated with this store by maintaining our relationships with the members who shopped this location", Riefs said. None of those stores are affected by the closings. The Sears Auto Center will remain open.

Just in the past year, Sports Authority and The Limited have closed, and RadioShack and American Apparel are both in their second bankruptcies and in danger of shutting down. Three other Sears stores in Columbus and Franklin are also on the list of closures.

"The ones that I have talked to and the retail consultants we work with have talked to have been new to the market", she said.

Doyle said the Sears closing "can cast a negative pall on the entire eastern end of the Walnut Avenue retail corridor", if the retail void is not replaced.

Sears was once the nation's largest retailer and business employer.

Twenty-four years later the store made another move, opening in the new Dakota Square Mall. Same-store sales - or sales at stores open at least one year - fell 11.2 percent at Kmart and 12.4 percent at Sears in the first quarter.

Mark Keyes said he wasn't surprised by the closing.
