Bengal: Fresh violence reported from Basirhat, 1 dies in Kolkata hospital

To control the situation, the West Bengal government has temporarily suspended internet services in the four police station areas of Basirhat, Baduria, Swarupnagar and Deganga to check the spread of rumours through social networking sites.

Singh also advised Tripathi and Banerjee to resolve the differences between them over the violence in North 24 Parganas district.

Schools, shops, markets and business establishments remained shut in and around Baduria, including Keosha market, Banshtala, Ramchandrapur and Tentulia, where prohibitory orders are in force. The people here now speak softly, but the anger is palpable among them. The team would include area police, students and youth from each locality.

"Everything is back to normal".

The violence was first reported from Baduria on Sunday evening after Muslims were up in arms over a Facebook post. The war of words between the governor and the TMC government continued unabated.

Banerjee had on Tuesday accused the Governor of threatening and insulting her over the communal incident.

The public spat between Mamata and Tripathi on Wednesday had degenerated into a bitter fight, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accusing the governor of crossing the constitutional line and reminding him that the "Raj Bhavan can not be the BJP's office", drawing a sharp reaction from Tripathi. "I am sorry to say that some religious leaders are doing this in exchange for money". The statement said that it was proper for the Governor to bring to the notice of the chief minister any serious grievance made by any member of public or any serious event happening in the state.

Kolkata: A man injured in communal violence in Basirhat, a town about 70 km from Kolkata, has died in a hospital in the West Bengal capital.

Ghosh has demanded imposition of President's rule in the state and to send central observers to assess the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state.

Banerjee claimed that there is a design and agenda in these posts on social media which try to destabilise the state and accused the BJP of indulging in politics.
