Even in the treatment room, Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to amaze.

But after suffering a serious knee ligament damage in United's Europa League quarter-final second-leg win over Anderlecht, an Old Trafford renewal looked unlikely. On one hand, if last season taught us anything, it was to never underestimate Ibrahimovic.

He's much more a striker in the Mourinho mould - remember Diego Costa also succeeded under him - than Zlatan and, dare I say it, he fits the bill more than Alvaro Morata too.

"I think that what he needs to do is go in and be himself".

With a return pencilled in for later in the year though, this time it could and should be very different.

The pair have had a tempestuous relationship since the Portuguese took the reigns at Old Trafford in May 2016, and a number of incidents took place to suggest that Shaw might leave the club this summer.

"(Last season) was a good experience, I learned a lot of things and hopefully I can use them now here back at United.

During that period, Larsson was surrounded by an outstanding array of emerging talent including the likes of Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ibrahimovic joined the club on a free one-year contract last summer, with the option to extend for another year.

Could then, history repeat itself for another legendary Swedish striker?

However, such has been the recovery of Ibrahimovic, as he continues his recovery and recuperating process at United's training headquarters, that United are now seriously considering offering him a new contract.

United have just forked out £75 million on Romelu Lukaku who they hope will be able to address some of last season's weaknesses, so it's certainly hard to see Ibrahimovic taking centre-stage once more.
