Tiemoue Bakayoko: Chelsea sign France midfielder from Monaco

Matic has been training on his own since returning for pre-season due to injury but it is rumoured that it is because his heart is no longer with the Premier League champions.

The midfielder had been linked with Manchester United - who successfully hijacked Chelsea's attempts to sign Romelu Lukaku - so the confirmation of Bakayoko will be a source of relief to the club as well as happiness.

The midfielder also played voyeur as his new teammates destroyed Fulham 8-2 in an untelevised friendly at the same ground.

Julien Laurens says working with Antonio Conte would be a big boost for Tiemoue Bakayoko if he joins Chelsea from Monaco.

Chelsea initially spent £21 million to bring the Brazilian to England from Benfica during the aforementioned transfer window of January 2011.

However, the same article states that Real Madrid's demands have put both Arsenal and Liverpool off the idea of a potential deal to sign the 24-year-old striker this summer.

A 23-goal haul at Marseille convinced the Blues that the Belgium global striker would be a useful addition to their forward-thinking ranks.

It did look touch-and-go for the Blues at one stage when Manchester United reportedly joined the race for Bakayoko's signature. His performances at Monaco saw him earn his first cap for the French national team while also being named in the 2016-17 Champions League's Squad of the Season.

Monaco reached the semifinals of the Champions League last season playing some of the best attacking football seen in Europe for years.

The Belgium hasn't had much of an impact at Stamford Bridge since joining from Marseille last summer, but at least he knows how to cause a stir on social media.

Chelsea announced on Friday that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Piazon has signed a two-year contract extension ahead of another loan move to Fulham.
