Schumacher Jr to drive at Belgian Grand Prix

Kimi Raikkonen will remain with Ferrari for the 2018 Formula 1 season as Tuesday's team announcement on the Formula 1 website effectively ends the drama about possible driver changes among the top.

Martin, who returned to the worldwide road racing scene this year with Honda Racing, will become an extra mechanic to the Williams squad at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend and take part in a complete F1 round for the Grove-based squad.

"People will assume that Spa should suit our auto because it is a circuit where aerodynamic efficiency is extremely important", Mercedes head of motorsport Toto Wolff said.

He recorded a time of one minute, 45.502 seconds to put him just 0.053 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, while Sebastian Vettel came third in a session that saw plenty of action at the top of the standings. What's more, it set an F1 record at the 2016 European Grand Prix when it changed all four of Felipe Massa's tires in 1.92 seconds. The damage caused required a replacement chassis for his vehicle.

Hamilton will be looking to close the 14-point gap on Vettel after the German's nail-biting victory in Hungary before the summer break. Hamilton is second with 188 points and Bottas is third with 169 points.

Still, if Hamilton needs any extra motivation for Sunday, he need only think about last year's race.

Meanwhile, McLaren's Fernando Alonso was plagued by DRS problems throughout, an issue that resulted in his disappointing 13th-placed time.

Starting at the Williams' base before the race, Martin will go through the tasks he'll be required to do during the Belgian Grand Prix. The drive is to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his father's first F1 win which took place at Spa in 1992.
