Spotify On Xbox One Soon To Be A Reality

Spotify has been available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 for around two years, allowing users to listen to tunes as they shoot guns in Call of Duty or whatever other game of their choosing. "Today, Spotify is coming to Windows 10 PC's and Xbox", the portal reads. The music streaming service - which now has over 60 million paying subscribers - converted its existing app using Microsoft's Desktop Bridge tool, rather than developing a new app built on the Universal Windows Platform. Clearly, the app is in testing at this point in time, but it's nice to see that it's far enough along for Major Nelson to be using it on one of his personal consoles.

"PlayStation have gaming exclusivity", Murray Pannell, UK marketing director for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, confirmed to Eurogamer at a preview of the app last week.

A screenshot shows a post dated 23 June, saying: "This week, Microsoft announced huge news that impacts more than one of these devices". The Xbox One itself can not run Centennial apps, which means this app is a completely separate project.

The real question now hangs over the nature of Spotify for Xbox. One important piece had been missing though, with Xbox owners clamoring for Spotify to make an official app for Xbox One.

For those unfamiliar with Spotify, at least on consoles, the application is a popular and premium music streaming app.
