All-new 306bhp Leon Cupra R is most powerful Seat ever

SEAT has revealed new and more intense version of its Leon Cupra creatively called the Cupra R. Available in limited numbers, the harder-edged Cupra R will be offered in both manual and DSG form, exclusively with front-wheel drive. But what will make the Leon Cupra R even more exclusive, it will be its production limited to 799 copies.

Among other extras, the camber has been modified on the front axle while it also gets adaptive suspension DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) for better body control. The extra 10bhp the manual Cupra R comes with could lead to a slightly quicker time, but human hands don't tend to be as quick at changing gear as dual-clutch automatics, so the difference may be negligible. Happily however, there's a new version here to give the Honda and the Ford what for: the Leon Cupra R. The wheels are fitted with Brembo brakes.

There are new bumpers front and rear (we're particularly fond of the socking great vents that have sprouted at the back), a bigger boot spoiler, a smattering of carbonfibre details, and various parts finished in "copper". The vehicle receives a new exhaust system. The front and rear skirts, side sills and diffuser have a carbon fiber finish.

If you thought the SEAT Leon Cupra was quick, wait until you get a load of this thing.

Inside, the copper and carbon-fibre theme continues, while further sporty touches include an Alcantara suede fabric steering wheel and gearlever. SEAT will offer the Leon Cupra R in two standard colours - Midnight Black and Pyrenees Grey - while there's also the Matte Grey finish sported by the vehicle seen here, which will incur an extra cost.

We've always had a soft spot for the Seat Leon Cupra, but against more recent entries to the hot hatch arms race like the new Honda Civic Type R and the all-wheel drive Ford Focus RS, it's looking a little outgunned.
