As Hurricane Irma nears, Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort ordered to evacuate

As Irma tears through a strip of expensive properties in Florida, the likely cost has been compared to the last Category 5 hurricane to pummel the state: Andrew, which killed 65 people, destroyed 63,000 homes and cost $26.5 billion in Miami in 1992.

Irma was headed for a direct hit on Florida on Sunday, prompting some to estimate it could be the most expensive storm in United States history.

Hurricane Irma is projected to make landfall in Florida by Sunday morning, and is now a Category 4 storm packing winds of 150 miles per hour, forcing mandatory evacuations in some Florida localities. "Please gather the essentials for 3-4 days, including clothing, medicine, important documents, and communication devices", the town's order said.

Miami-Dade County ordered a mandatory evacuation in areas including Miami Beach and Sunny Isles beach, where some of Trump's properties are also located.

As Hurricane Irma continues to approach Florida, the conditions across the area are deteriorating.

Trump has dubbed Mar-a-Lago the "Winter White House", and has spent many a holiday there. Since being built, Mar-A-Lago has seen it's fair share of huge storms.

Trump issued a video statement on the storm early Friday morning, asking "everyone in the storm's path to be vigilant and heed all recommendations from government officials and law enforcement".

Irma has already ravaged the Caribbean, and is responsible for at least 10 deaths so far. St. Martin was among the many small islands where Hurricane Irma first made landfall.

Afterwards, Hurricane Irma continued on a path that saw it inflict varying amounts of damage on Puerto Rico, the Domincan Republic, Haiti, and Turks and Caicos, among others.

Of those three clubs, the one in Jupiter might be the most vulnerable to a storm surge.
