Blade Runner Is Getting A Short Anime From Cowboy Bebop Director

Blade Runner 2049 has all the things audiences love: sci-fi nerdiness, references to the original film, Harrison Ford and - most importantly - Ryan Gosling. Music composition is being handled by Flying Lotus.

Ahead of the October 6 release, Warner Bros. has been shedding light on the film's backstory, fleshing out characters such as Jared Leto's Niander Wallace and Dave Bautista's Sapper Morton.

It seems Replicants are at the center of controversy again in a new animated short called "Blade Runner Black Out 2022". Dave Bautista, who was briefly glimpsed in the most recent 2049 trailer, stars in this short as a replicant on the run. And (depending on who you ask) it's either been too long a wait, or it should never have seen the light of day.

The preview clip shows test animation, concept art, and a few shots of finished animation from the short film.

"As an anime professional, the film that's had the greatest influence on me has to be Blade Runner". It will tell a new story taking place between "Blade Runner" and "Blade Runner: 2049".

Denis Villeneuve has created a limited-edition whisky for Blade Runner 2049.

49% ABV both for added intensity and as a nod to the futuristic period in which Blade Runner 2049 is set.

Based on pre-release surveys, the sequel to Ridley Scott's acclaimed 1982 science fiction classic could surpass the $40 million mark when it opens in theaters next month.

The video was more of a teaser than a full preview, as it only offered the briefest of glimpses at what's coming in Blade Runner: Black Out 2022.
