Kushner found using a private email account

Other Trump advisers, including chief economic adviser Gary Cohn and strategist Stephen Miller, reportedly sent or received "at least a few" emails on personal accounts.

The decision to use private accounts in office is at odds with the repeated criticism that Donald Trump and his surrogates heaped upon his opponent, Democratic nominee Hilary Clinton, during the Presidential campaign.

"All White House personnel have been instructed to use official email to conduct all government-related work", press secretary Sarah Sanders said.

According to Lowell, most of the emails consisted of "forwarded news articles and political commentary" and was usually a response to an email that someone had sent to his personal account as opposed to his official government email.

Kushner's account was apparently set up during Trump's 2016 transition to power despite the NY billionaire's repeated accusations against his Democratic contender, Hillary Clinton, for using a private email server as the former USA secretary of state.

Kushner's attorney, Abbe Lowell, defended his use of the private email server on Sunday. Lowell said the emails were all forwarded to Kushner's official account, creating a record.

Gowdy and Cummings asked McGahn to identify any White House staffers who have used a personal email account, an alias email, text messages, or encrypted message apps for official business to ensure that members of the administration are complying with laws governing record preservation. For one, Clinton's emails numbered in the tens of thousands, about 100 of which contained classified information.

Ivanka Trump, the president's elder daughter, who is married to Mr. Kushner, used a private account when she acted as an unpaid adviser in the first months of the administration, Newsweek reported Monday. However, she was attending White House meetings prior to becoming an official (yet unpaid) federal employee in March.

White House adviser Jared Kushner has also used his personal email for government work. However, she referred to White House staffer Julie Radford as "my chief of staff" in one of the emails.

"It just goes to the rank hypocrisy that this Trump campaign and now this Trump White House is engaged in", Clinton said.

An FBI investigation into Clinton's email use ended with then-FBI Director James Comey declining to recommend criminal charges against Clinton.
