Man wounded in officer-involved shooting outside Huntington Beach store

A police officer fatally wounded a man Friday during a struggle outside a California convenience store that was captured on video by a bystander.

The officer had been speaking with the man outside the convenience store before the confrontation suddenly turned violent, said Officer Angela Bennett, a police spokeswoman. The suspect was struck by gunfire and was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

They did not say why they were called out to the scene. The man then staggers and falls to the ground. His identity has not yet been released.

Listing the reasons of what might have escalated the situation, Heal said that the officer "could have thought the man grabbed his taser" and that weapon can disable an officer. It shows the man getting up from the ground, and an officer backing away. It's unclear if he was armed during the incident.

"Clearly, this person attacked our police officer", Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy told reporters Friday.

At least seven shots are heard as the man, not raising the object, stumbled around and then collapsed against a wall.

A female employee inside the store was grazed by a bullet, one of the witnesses said.

Marina High School was temporarily on lockdown nearby as a precaution, police said. By 11:16 a.m. the school had tweeted to say that the lockdown was lifted. "It's not like the movies", said student Carmella Marshall.
