Priyanka Chopra apologises for calling Sikkim 'troubled with insurgency'

I am surprised that Priyanka made this comment because she is one of the best and intellectually sharpest actresses, and she speaks sensibly. And this time it was over a controversial statement she made while promoting her upcoming Sikkimese production "Pahuna: The Little Visitors". She said that it was the first film to come out of Sikkim. She received major backlash for her freaky statement and Twitterati slammed her for little political knowledge. "This is the first film ever that's come out of that region, because it's very troubled with insurgency and troubling situations", the 35-year-old actress said.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, he said: "Sikkim is one of the most politically stable states in the country since 1975, and there has not been a single insurgency since then". She faced backlash for the comment.

The actor was instantly slammed on social media for calling a state 'troubled with insurgency'.

Some commented writing, "Little knowledge is unsafe." while another comment read, "Priyanka Chopra please get your facts correct, there has never been an insurgency problem in Sikkim". The actor and her production company, Purple Pebble Films, apologised to Sikkim's tourism minister, Ugen T Gyatso. "We should bury this issue without sensationalising it any further". This film is based on the story of two kids who get separated from their parents while fleeing the Maoist agitation from Nepal to Sikkim.

Angry Sikkimese people lashed out at Priyanka Chopra by saying that Sikkim remains "One of the most peaceful states in India" and has a film industry of its own! We don't have any insurgency here.

Biswatosh Sinha, a scriptwriter from Assam, wrote: "Dear Priyanka Chopra, Sikkim is a peaceful place and Pahuna is not the first fim from the region". In fact, even after apologising for the mistake, she was not spared.

The National Award-winning actress, a former Miss World, is a known face globally courtesy American television show "Quantico".
