Rahul should wear Gujarati, not Italian spectacles to see development: Amit Shah

"We are seeking an answer from you for injustices that the three generations of your rule inflicted on us", the BJP president said.

"While the first generation of Congress insulted Sardar Patel by not giving him his due recognition and Bharat Ratna, Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi did injustice to Morarji Desai", Shah alleged.

Interestingly, Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to start second leg of the four-leg "Navsarjan Yatra", from Central Gujarat on October 9.

The BJP has undertaken the Gaurav Yatra to reach out to the voters as the state goes to polls for the Gujarat Assembly in December.

As the state assembly polls get closer, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress are throwing their weight for the campaigning even as the Election Commission of India (EC) is likely to announce the poll dates in a week or so.

On Sunday, Shah flagged-off the fortnightly Gujarat Gaurav Yatra from Sardar Patel's birthplace of Karamsad, where he launched a fierce counter-attack on Congress after Rahul Gandhi's fairly successful three-day yatra in Saurashtra recently. He compared the situation in Gujarat in 1995, when the BJP wrested power from the Congress, to what the state achieved till 2017 in power generation, farm production, education, police modernisation and road construction. "When Narendra Modi was the chief minister, he created a Gujarat development model which has today become a model for the entire country".

He added that the party is taking pride of making Gujarat a curfew-free state and providing 24 hours electricity in the state. "The Congress is asking us what the Narendra Modi government at the centre has given Gujarat in these three years. I want to remind them that the Modi government approved AIIMS for Gujarat, an worldwide airport for Rajkot, approval to raise the height of the Narmada dam and allocation of homes to six lakh urban poor", Shah said in his address.

The yatra was launched from Karamsad, which is Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's native place.

The poll campaign has been named "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" and it seeks to highlight the various achievements of the BJP government in the state for the last 20 years.
