Wonder Wheel Trailer: Kate Winslet Leads Woody Allen Drama

The movie, set in Coney Island in the 1950s, sees Timberlake playing a lifeguard who tells a story about a middle-aged carousel operator and his wife (James Belushi and Kate Winslet). Wonder Wheel also stars Jim Belushi as Humpty, Ginny's rough-around-the-edges husband, and Juno Temple as Ginny's estranged daughter Carolina.

The film is already getting some Oscar buzz for Winslet (though, to be fair, it seems nearly everything Winslet does gets some amount of Oscar buzz), and the star has said it's one of her toughest roles yet. Not only does the film find Tony Sirico, Steve Schirripa, and Max Casella back together for the first time since The Sopranos, but also marks yet another collaboration between Allen and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, whose work on the film looks absolutely phenomenal.

Take Coney Island circa 1950, the iconic Wonder Wheel and a crowded beach, throw in some angry mobsters and you've got the basis of Woody Allen's latest project. Winslet is hoping Wonder Wheel can score her an Oscar nod just as Allen's Blue Jasmine did for Cate Blanchett. But there's an undercurrent of violence that runs throughout the trailer thanks to Winslet's frenetic and unraveling performance - it's easy to imagine this earning the actress her eighth (!) Oscar nomination.

The film, an Amazon production, will premiere on October 14th as the closing film of the New York Film Festival, and will roll out to the wider public on December 1st. But his Wonder Wheel seems to belong to the best category.
